Biz Markie, known by many for his hit song, Just A Friend, passed away on Friday from complications of type II diabetes. Markie, a native of Harlem, New York, began his rise in 1988 with his debut album Going Off. The album featured Markie’s calling card of beatboxing with the hit single, Make the Music with Your Mouth Biz. In 1989 Markie released his second album: The Biz Never Sleeps. The song, Just a Friend, reached number 9 on the Billboard charts.
He released his last studio album in 2003; however, he remained active in the entertainment industry. Markie made his acting debut in 2002’s Men In Black. He most recently was a part of SiriusXM’s LL Cool J’s Rock the Bells Radio. You can read more about this story here.
